Mission Statement

Our intention is to explore the possibilities for non-authoritarian alternatives to capitalism. We are a group of freely associated individuals, united by a common conviction that the only means to eradicate inequality and injustice once and for all is the wholesale replacement of capitalism. We believe that capitalism is an inherently destructive system because it prioritizes the profit motive far in excess of all other objectives, thus subordinating consideration of social needs and necessitating exploitation. The question is: Is there an alternative to capitalism and what is it?

We are brought together by our shared disillusionment with the authoritarian revolutionary left, which is characterized by doctrinaire orthodoxies and inflexible dogmatism that we feel is elitist, out of touch and can only offer top-down models of socialism, which fail as alternatives to capitalism. Therefore, our objectives are two fold. Firstly, our general objective is to bring together individuals from across the anti-capitalist left in order to facilitate co-operation, collaboration and communication. Secondly, we seek to discuss the plausibility, feasibility and means for the establishment of a de-centralised, non-authoritarian vision of socialism.

As a group we are not associated with any political organization or party, though individual participants may be so. We welcome new participants who are sympathetic with our ideas from across the anti-capitalist left spectrum. We ask that all participants respect the values and ideals of each other and that debate should be based upon the merit of individuals’ arguments, rather than personality, background or ideology. We seek to co-operate and correspond with other groups that share our ideals, and to participate in general protests and demonstrations of working class solidarity. Amongst our long-term objectives we hope to be the kernel for the production of a regular Cleveland area newsletter, promoting revolutionary ideas, activities and struggle, and also for the establishment of a permanent physical space in the area to facilitate our activities.
