Update on the situation in Honduras:

SOA report back

From a CEDNET activist at the Fort Benning protest

On the eve of this year's SOA vigil at the gates of Fort Benning, a courageous representative of the Committee of Detained and Disappeared of Honduras (COFADEH) addressed a crowded room of protesters in attendance. She had flown in from Honduras, and alongside her friends from SOA watch and the Quixote Center, delivered a powerful account of the military coup, an update on the repression of the Michelleti regime, and a call for solidarity to the international community.

An article on the SOA watch website provides a description of the waves of repression leading up to the election on the 29th which the Honduran people consider illegitimate and illegal. Below are two more links to SOAW articles describing the current situation.

During her address, the speaker from COFADEH delivered a call for international solidarity in repudiating the military coup, and the illegal election. Although it is certain the United States government will declare these elections legal, we can show our solidarity by pressuring our US legislators and the State Department to denounce the coup and the election. They are our representatives and we must demand that they condemn this oligarchical offensive against a true peoples' democracy in Honduras. Tomorrow's election is likely to result in a great deal of civil unrest and the presence of outsiders and witnesses to these events is crucial. They must know that we are watching and that we are paying attention.

Below is a flier with information on how to contact the US State Department. Contact them before and beyond November 29th. Say NO to militarized elections!
